Update: In the Dark
Hello readers! Regarding the concerns we’ve received on the English edition of In the Dark, our company and the author have come to a resolution following a thorough investigation. We would like to address this matter beginning with a joint statement from author Jin Shisi Chai and Peach Flower House:
We have confirmed that the manuscript used for the publication of the English edition of In the Dark is the full uncensored manuscript from the original web version and not the Simplified Chinese print (censored) text. Peach Flower House has not censored any portions of the original web version manuscript upon publication.
However, a newly edited version of the uncensored manuscript was not made available to the publisher at the time of the initial English publication. Due to this, Peach Flower House was unable to include the additional content
We sincerely apologize for the issues this has caused and will publish a brand new edition of In the Dark with the new edits and new content, including the exclusive extra from the Traditional Chinese print.

We would like to establish that we have read all feedback regarding the content of the initial In the Dark publication. However, from the time we acquired In the Dark in 2021 to the time of this writing, no official text has been made publicly available, and it is against our licensing contract to check our received manuscript against materials obtained through unofficial channels. Please be aware that the copyright holder and author have been made aware of unauthorized sources brought to us as part of our due diligence in investigating this matter.
At this time, we have received a revised manuscript with the aforementioned supplemental content. Our new “The Complete Hanhai Case Files” Edition of In the Dark will come in three volumes with updated cover designs. The ebook edition will also be split into three volumes, and we are halting sales of first edition In the Dark ebooks effective immediately.
Ebooks will be listed as soon as possible, and details on first edition ebook updates are further down. Please stay tuned for more information regarding the print release schedule.
In addition, our reprint run of In the Dark: Volume 1 finished just prior to receiving the new edits. These first edition books will be available exclusively on the PFH shop at a discount. We will not be reprinting first edition books once they are sold out.
We realize that this has raised much concern among fans, and we are willing to provide compensation to our readers to the best of our abilities. The following remedies are in place for buyers who have purchased first edition books:
Ebook customers
We will be uploading the corresponding chapters of the new editions to first edition listings as they become available. That means the first edition of In the Dark Volume 1 will receive up to the first half of the Complete Files Edition’s Volume 2, and the first edition of Volume 2 will receive the rest of the story, including all extras.
Due to system limitations, ebooks ordered on 3rd party platforms before May 2022 and from Amazon Kindle may not be eligible for updates. All ebook purchases of In the Dark from the PFH shop will receive the file update.
Paperback customers
Unfortunately, we are unable to recall and replace first edition books containing the original web manuscript. Customers who have purchased In the Dark paperbacks are eligible to receive a one time $5 shop coupon. Shop customers will be sent a code automatically by September 30, 2022. Customers who purchased from retailers can receive a coupon by forwarding their order confirmation to peachflowerhouseshop@gmail.com with the message “In the Dark First Edition Paperback Retail Order.” Note that emails without the proper content message may not be processed.
